ScrapTrack: The Free Transaction Tracker for Junk Shops & Scrap Yards

ScrapTrack: Free Transaction Tracker for Junk Shops

If you run a junk shop or scrap yard, you already know the real risk isn't just theft at the register — it's not knowing what you actually have, what you paid for it, or who sold it to you until you're already in trouble. ScrapTrack is a transaction tracker built specifically for junk shops, scrap metal dealers, and recycling buyers — it logs every buy and sell by material, keeps your inventory numbers accurate, tracks who did what, and closes out the cash drawer at the end of a shift.

In this post, we'll walk through what ScrapTrack does, who it's built for, and why it's worth having on the shop counter if inventory drift, cash mismatches, or "who sold this to us" questions are a recurring headache.

What is ScrapTrack?

ScrapTrack is a free Android app for tracking scrap buy and sell transactions. Every purchase and sale is logged by material — aluminum, copper, brass, or anything you set up — with the price-per-kilo (or per-unit) snapshotted at the moment of the transaction, so your records stay accurate even after prices move the next day.

It works fully offline, with no server and no account required — your transaction data stays on your device.

Today's Summary & Cash Flow

ScrapTrack opens on a same-day dashboard: what you bought today, what you sold today, and the net cash flow between the two — with yesterday's comparison and a 14-day bought-vs-sold chart so you can see the shape of your week, not just today's number.

Materials, Pricing & Profit Per Kilo

Every material you track shows its buy price, sell price, and profit per kilo side by side — no separate calculator needed. Current stock on hand is calculated automatically from your actual buy and sell history, not entered by hand.

Buy & Sell Entry

Logging a transaction is built for a walk-in counter — pick the material, enter the weight, and the total calculates itself against the current buy or sell price. Each entry can optionally note the supplier or buyer.

Seller ID & Photo Protection

This is the standout feature the app's own written description undersells: on a buy transaction, ScrapTrack lets you optionally record the seller's ID type and attach a photo — either straight from the camera or from your gallery — right alongside the transaction. If a purchased item is ever questioned, that record is what protects the shop.

Transaction History & Staff Accountability

Every buy and sell is searchable and filterable — by material, staff member, buyer or supplier, date range, or type. Each staff member logs in with their own PIN, so every entry is attributed to the person who made it, and Owner vs. Staff roles control who's allowed to void a transaction or edit prices. A voided entry is never deleted — it's excluded from totals but kept in history for accountability, along with the reason it was voided.

Low Stock Alerts

Another feature that doesn't make it into the app's own description: ScrapTrack can send a push notification when a material's stock runs low, checked automatically a couple of times a day in the background — so you're not caught without enough of a material on hand when a regular buyer comes in looking to sell.

Export, Reconciliation & Backup

  • CSV & PDF export — pull your transaction data for a given period, ready for Excel, Google Sheets, or an accountant
  • Cash drawer reconciliation — count your drawer at the end of a shift and see expected vs. actual cash, with a running history of every count
  • Instant receipts — a quick shareable text receipt for a single transaction, separate from the bulk export
  • Supplier tracking — keep a record of your regular sellers and suppliers

Who ScrapTrack is Built For

  • Junk shops and scrap metal dealers buying and selling material by weight
  • Recycling centers that need accurate, auditable inventory
  • Any small business that needs a straightforward record of who did what, when, and for how much

Free Plan vs. ScrapTrack Pro

The free plan is generous enough to run a small shop on its own: up to 10 materials, 2 staff accounts, and 3 suppliers, with CSV/PDF export for Today and This Week. ScrapTrack Pro removes those caps — unlimited materials, staff, and suppliers, export for any date range including This Month and All Time, and full database backup and restore so your history isn't tied to one device. Pro is available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

If your shop's inventory numbers never quite match what's actually on the floor, or a disputed purchase has ever turned into a "he-said, she-said" with no record to fall back on, ScrapTrack fixes both at the counter — no internet connection, no account, and no extra hardware required.
