Samsung Galaxy A80 with 48MP Rotating Pop-Up Cameras Now Official


Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy A80 in an event in Bangkok, Thailand. The premium mid-range phone features a motorized pop-up rotating triple camera module and a huge cinematic AMOLED display with no notch. The highlight feature of this phone is the triple camera set up that elevates and rotates to the front so you can use the rear camera system for better selfies.

The Galaxy A80 sports an in-display fingerprint scanner to eliminate the space usually occupied by a traditional sensor. Samsung Galaxy A80 highlights a 6.7-inch 20:9 AMOLED panel with FHD+ 2400 x 1080 resolution.

Inside, the handset run with the new 2.2GHz dual-core + 1.7GHz hexa-core CPU, Qualcomm SM7150. It is paired with 8GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. Unfortunately, it has no support for a microSD card and there is no headphone jack. Powering up the deviceis is a 3,700mAh battery that supports 25W Super Fast Charging technology.

The pop-up mechanism carries the rotating triple-camera setup. 48MP f/2.0 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens + 3D depth sensor w/ AF and LED flash. The 3rd lens offers Live Focus to not only photos but also videos by scanning objects for measurement and depth. The handset loads Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.

It also comes with the Super Steady video mode to reduce shake while taking videos. As expected, it comes with AI Scene Optimizer that can recognize and enhance up to 30 scenes.  The Samsung Galaxy A80 will be available worldwide by May 29. Local pricing is yet to be announced.
